Experienced Hawaii Sailor- Races his own boat-Used to Rough Conditions

     I have owned my own boat, a FARR 1020, in Hawaii since 1999. I've sailed her to all the islands except Kaho'olawe. I have raced it between Maui and Oahu, Oahu to Kauai and Oahu to Molokai and back many times. I also do the shorter distances around Oahu several times a year. Most of the deliveries to and from the outer island races are done at night which I quite enjoy. The delivery to the Big Island was 30 hours of really tough sailing. It was done over two nights. I'm used to sailing in high winds and rough conditions.

     Between doing the Thursday night Kaneohe Yacht Club bulkhead races, practicing on the weekends for the Inshore Racing Fleets (IRF) buoy races and participating in the Offshore Racing Fleet distance races; I have been sailing almost every week since the early 2000s. My boat No Brakes doesn't do that well around the cans anymore, but we compete very well in the offshores. Last year we won the Around Oahu Memorial day race in PHB and the 2 day race to Waimea and back to Kaneohe.

    I owned a 19' Lightning on the mainland before moving to Hawaii in the early 1990s. I joined a racing crew on a 42' FARR.  While I was familiar with all positions I specialized in headsail trimming (jibs, spinnakers and even bloopers).

   As a skipper I am known to be calm under pressure. I don't scream and yell at the crew, I want racing to be fun and have built a very tight core team over the years.

   I'm a certified Principle Race Officer (PRO) and am currently getting re-certified for Safety at Sea (SaS).

   Currently the Rear Commodore for Kaneohe Yacht Club.

   When it comes to cooking I can do basic meals.  Awesome at doing dishes.

   I do most of the work on my own boat, engine maintenance, electronic maintenance, basic repairs, fiberglassing, painting, etc.
